Papyrus 2.0 Released

Good morning all!

I'm very pleased to announce the release of the all new Papyrus 2.0 for Smartphone is now available!

Papyrus has been completely rewritten to enhance functionality and performance. Papyrus 2 is designed to run on Microsoft Windows Mobile Smartphone devices running WM5 or higher.

So let's get started with some more details about the new Papyrus 2.0 release!!

What's new in Papyrus 2?

New View Selector
Instead of having to rotate through all views to get to a particular view, the user can now click on the View menu to bring up a graphical list of views. The user can press a number directly to select a view, or use the d-pad and action button to select a view. The old way of navigating views still exists and has been made an option for those that would prefer it, but this new navigation method is now the default.
Improved monthly view for landscape devices
The quick view list of appointments and tasks has been moved to the side in monthly view on landscape devices.
Improved new/edit appointment and tasks dialogs
A new, uniform look and feel has been incorporated into the appointment and task editing screens to make information entry much easier and more intuitive than ever. All similar data entry dialogs, such as settings, use the same style.
New Search View
New to this version of Papyrus is Search capability. You can now search for appointments and tasks containing a certain string or portion of a string. Within the search results, you can open the found items directly for editing, delete them, etc. Additional search options are available to modify how Papyrus searches for items.
Completely new database engine
The database engine has been rewritten from the ground up, providing a dramatic speed improvement. Papyrus will start much quicker, and you'll see a much more rapid response when navigating between dates.
New Filtering System
The Filters system has been redesigned to solve the limitations of the previous versions of Papyrus. Every filter has a set of criteria, which can contain a set of Included and Excluded categories. Included or excluded categories can match 'All', 'Any of', or 'Only', to refine exactly what the filter looks for. Filters can be named and saved in one of twenty slots, and are automatically applied when Papyrus starts again.
Improved Category Image Selection
Category images, as well as most of the built-in images in Papyrus, are now .PNG format, which allows for alpha blending (semi-transparency) for a much nicer display. Category images are now stored hierarchically inside a .zip file. All category images come in two sizes to fit better in different views. The category image selection dialog now groups items by type. Furthermore, the new .zip file format makes it very easy for 3rd parties to develop category packages, and Papyrus will automatically incorporate them.
Appointment attendee notification
For devices using supported Exchange server and/or ActiveSync, attendees for an appointment are notified by e-mail when an appointment has been created or modified.
Papyrus views look and feel integration
Views such as monthly, daily, weekly, etc., now use device theme colors by default to feel more integrated with the operating system. Colors can easily be adjusted to fit the user's preference if needed. Additionally, Papyrus now uses the built-in OS scroll bars.
Improved QWERTY support
QWERTY search now works on the contacts list when selecting attendees or a contact for MyText, for devices with a QWERTY keyboard attached. Some keyboards are not properly recognized by Papyrus, but an option in Settings will force Papyrus to use QWERTY mode if this is the case.
Screen slides
Most dialogs will slide onto the screen, adding just a little visual punch. This is an option that can be easily disabled if desired.
New Time Picker
A new time picker dialog has been implemented to help the user pick a time when creating or editing an appointment or task. Just hit enter (d-pad action button) on a time field, and the new dialog will display.
Responsive timeline
The timeline has been slightly redesigned. One additional new feature of the timeline is that it now highlights the currently selected appointment in any view.
Pop-out effect
A new optional pop-out effect has been added to each view to help more easily identify the currently selected date or item. The effect can be turned off, or set to one of three sizes: small, medium, and large.
New Settings Selector
Entering and selecting settings has been made more intuitive than in the prior version. Before, the user would enter settings directly into the settings page related to the current view, and may not even realize that other settings options were available. Now, the user will see a graphical list of settings areas first.
New Extended Text Entry Selector
When pressing the d-pad enter button on a field such as Subject, Location, or Notes, the user will now see a list of choices on how to add text to that field. They can insert a string from MyText, select information from a Contact, or use the Full-Screen Editor.
Improved MyText Selection/Editing
It is now much easier to select, edit, move, and delete strings from MyText. MyText is a list of commonly-used strings that you may frequently enter into text fields. Papyrus maintains a separate list for Subject, Location, and now Notes fields.
New Go To Date System
Selecting 'Go To...' from the menu will bring up a display, giving easy access to navigation by month or year, to a specific date, or to Today.

In addition, the shortcut keys shown in this display will work in most views directly, without having to enter the dialog at all! For example, pressing the '3' key while in the Monthly view will navigate to the following month.
Improved color settings/selection
Color settings are now grouped by type rather than presented in a single grouped list on one long scrolling page. A brand new color picker dialog has been added, including 3 different views for selecting or editing colors, and allow the selection of a 'default' (or 'no color' in some cases) value.
New Custom Recurrence Dialog
The entry of custom recurrence information has been tremendously simplified in the new version while retaining all the flexibility of custom recurring patterns.
Improved edit/delete recurring message box
Previously, when editing or deleting a recurring appointment or task, a confusing message box would pop up with a Yes/No choice. This has been made prettier and more intuitive with a new approach.
Beaming support
Appointments and tasks can now be beamed. This is found under the 'More' menu of most views.
Language support
In addition to English, Papyrus currently has German and Swedish translations, with many more coming very soon.

Upgrade to Papyrus 2 for Papyrus 1.X registered users

Users who registered Papyrus 1.x before May 1st 2008 are entitled to upgrade to the new version for only $7.95. User can complete the upgrade to the new version using the Papyrus 2.0 Upgrade Page at the following URL:

The complete upgrade details will also be emailed to all our Papyrus 1.X registered users within the next 48 hours.

Users who registered Papyrus 1.x after May 1st 2008, including, are entitled to upgrade for free. Users entitled for a free upgrade will receive an email including free upgrade information within the next 72 hours.

Because this is a major version release we recommend to uninstall the latest version before installing the new one.
